When Peli came home today she heard the sound of running water. We soon narrowed it down to the pipes behind the shower and it was clearly coming from above.
I’m kinda sad that I didn’t use this blog to list our last problems with running water that wasn’t inside the pipes. Some of you might recall the great flood of 2007/2008 and the resulting lack of kitchen for a year and the bath room for around 3-4 months in 2008. Just because of the “wonderful” tenants upstairs who among …

This is one of the most amazing fantastic things I have ever seen build with Lego. How Dave DeGobbi got the idea I do not know it is simply put a work of art and something I would have loved to have build or played with.
Dave DeGobbi’s steampunk inspired creation takes a small city and puts it on a mobile platform! The idea is crazy enough to work both in concept and execution. This creation is supposedly a luxury resort set in a post-apocalyptic world. What wouldn’t I pay for …

Some people look at Lego bricks and see great potential buried within them. In their hands Lego rises above its childhood origins and gets a chance to aspire, to be part of something great.
In Warren Elsmore’s hands 11,000 Lego bricks have been fashioned into a scale model of the Forth Railway Bridge.
He even made a stunning Lego model of London’s St Pancras station. Use the ling below to see the BBC video.

Yesterday I had a grand day out with a handful of leather nuts to the Brooks saddle factory in Birmingham, UK. We were split into 2 groups and had a tour on the factory floor. Where we could see, hear and smell the production of these beautiful leather saddles. The whole production is done in true industrial style, e.g big and noisy with oil and steam (ok just added that last bit for effect).
I do have a weak spot for old industrial craftsmanship, ok CNC, robots are great but each …

After a little clicking around on the Brooks website I think I figured out that they are a B66 and a Team Pro.

Our washing machine started a few weeks back to blink all its light like a discotheque. With a bit of random pressing of buttons and opening and closing the door we got it running. But over the weekend no matter how much pressing. swearing and dancing it would not do anything other than blink its lights.
So today I started to do a wee bit searching on the net and came up to a few things I could do. Armed with a Phillips screwdriver and my solar light cap I set …

I know which love the most but I have always have had a soft spot for the rubic cube. Now what a better mix than this a Lego robot controlled by a Nokia phone which solves a rubic cube.
I have only once managed to solve the 3×3×3 rubik cube let alone a 4×4×4. So this a wee bit of cheating getting the phone to solve but it quite cool to watch.

… well at least make it so that your users can cross link to each others right away.
Google have just launched their own thing called buzz.google.com, some say it is the twitter/facebook killer, we will see. I do like the fact that it is integrated into my gmail, though I’m still waiting for it on the desktop but my iPhone can buzz already. I also like that I can “tag” my Buzz to a location and add pictures and from what I understand there is no 140 characters limit like …

Today is the sad anniversary of the departure of Sheldon Brown two years ago.
I have never met Sheldon but I have heavily used his website and learned a lot from reading it. If I’m asked where is a good place to learn about bicycles and how to maintain a bicycle, I always send them to Sheldon Browns website.
We are all alive just so long as someone remembers us.
The above quote I totally agree with and I will use and will pass on Sheldon great work to others, thank …

I finally had the chance to cycle in the snow with my Surly Long Haul Trucker. What can I say, it is sooo easy.
I have done my fair share of cycling in the snow and snow storms where I couldn’t see further than 50 metres ahead. Quite often I had to stop to remove the snow out of the wheels and away from the brakes. The most “fun” to ride on is when there is one layer of snow that have plenty of tracks from people moving about on bicycles …
