Description: If you are looking for a great holiday in France then look no further thant Les Sorbiers in the village of Bareges in the French Pyrenees. Les Sorbiers is a fine period Napoleonic building in the heart of the village, which has been sympathetically restored and modernised to the level expected of high quality family run hotels throughout the Pyrenees.
Site visited: Summer 2008 and 2009.

As seen on the blog: Cycling in France
We have been staying elsewhere in Bareges, but have enjoyed the hospitality of Rob and Rachel at Les Sorbiers for two years in a row. We come down for dinner every night and an after dinner chat with the other guests. Simply because of the quality of the food and the great company
From what we hear from the horse’s mouth e.g. from the other guests at Les Sorbiers, we know that the rooms, service and breakfast are simply the best. The other guests can’t stop saying good things about this place, just like we can’t stop talking about the food. Always the right amount for a needy cyclist or walker, that is to say, lots. :)
With Les Sorbiers located in Bareges you are simply spoiled for ...

With Les Sorbiers located in Bareges you are simply spoiled for choice when it comes to cycling, whether that be following le Tour de France or mountain biking. Quite a few ski lifts in the area have opened up for walkers and montain bikers doing the summer. Rob at Les Sorbiers will either take you out for a ride or tell you the best route to go, including great routes and classic Tour climbs such as the Col de Tourmalet, Col D’Aspin, Col D’Aubisque or Hautacam, or many more.

The same goes for walking, Bareges is a great place to base yourself for a range of stunning walks for all levels of walker, in beautiful scenery. Unspoilt valleys such as the Aygues Cluses are within easy reach, as are the three Cirques of Gavarnie, Troumouse and Estaube. For the more experienced mountaineer, the Neouvielle National Park is a couple of hours’ walk away with high mountain lakes and challenging ridges. Or if pootling is more your style, Rob and Rachel can suggest lower level walks, such as the rolling path to St Justin, or the Granges traversing walk up the valley.

And they have all the maps that is needed to plan your walk in the Pyrenees, being that along GR10 (Grand Randonnee 10) or other great walks.

We haven’t been at Les Sorbiers in the winter, but we have been told that this is the place to be if you are going skiing in the Pyrenees. With plenty of piste just around the corner. I’m sure that the wonderful hospitality and the brilliant food is still the same, even when the temperatures are (quite) a bit lower outside.

Description: (From their site) Three stars family hotel – restaurant Trogirski Dvori is one of those hotels in Trogir with the longest tradition. Hotel is situated at about one kilometer form the center of Trogir and three kilometers from the Airport Split. Hotel is ideal for business people who need to stay overnight, and for families with children. Four hundred meters long pebbly and sandy Pantana Beach is a hundred meters away from the Hotel, on the estuary of small Pantan River.
Site visited: 15th of September 2009.
Yes it is easy to become blinded by the simplest things after have been camping for a week. But this hotel is great, the welcome, the service and the size of the room we got says it all.
After a quick search on in internet for a hotel near Split airport we found hotel Trogirski Dvori. We then emailed them to find out if they had a way of getting two bike boxes to the airport early in the morning, they promptly replied we have a mini bus so no problem.
We arrived a day before our booking to check if it was possible to “use” their mini bus for picking up our bicycles ...

Since we had quite a bit if rain the night before on the campsite we stayed at outside Trogir, we passed on fully loaded touring bicycles on our way to Split. And asked if we could leave our panniers at the hotel until we arrived back in the afternoon. Better yet why not check in right away and put the panniers directly in your room.

We got picked on time from cikloplanet.com with our bikes in boxes and was taken to the hotel with a smile.

We went to the restaurant in the hotel and again we were not disappointed at all. I had a plate of cevapcici and a side salad and Peli had a plate of blue cheese Gnocchi.

The hotel is located around 2km outside Trogir on a busy road and somewhat under the flight path to Split airport. But we weren’t disturbed at all and had a great night sleep on the comfy bed.

The room we stayed in was very nice, roomy and had a good shower. At breakfast we were served delicious omelet and a cup of tea for Peli her first for a whole week ;)

After breakfast they took us and our bicycles to the airport a mere 5 min drive away, simply great service and location for an easy airport transfer in that early mornings.

We arrived at Kilbury Manor Bed and Breakfast and checked into the Loft Room. This B&B is very very highly recommended – do ask for the loft room as you will have a nice spacious bedroom for you and the rest of the barn for your bikes to do any fettling if needed.

Our bikes had a place to “sleep” at the bottom of the steps in our quarters. Massive bed and room, very quiet. And the breakfast you couldn’t shake a stick at, as you will not be able to lift it after that massive meal. Service simply the best and friendliest you could get.

Description: Unique and secluded, yet only ten minutes from the M1, Coton Lodge is set in beautiful gardens and surrounded by its own working farm. Although mostly arable, the grassland in front of the house is grazed by our Whitefaced Woodland and Llanwenog rare breed sheep.
Site visited: Fall 2007.
This was a treat to ourselves – a wonderfully comfortable haven to relax after our first experience of tandemming! A warm welcome (complete with wagging tail) awaited us at the end of a long drive (the signposting is not that great, but then we did arrive in the darkest of dark nights). Our late arrival wasn’t a problem. After safely stashing our steeds in an adjoining shed, we were ushered into our simply luxurious bedroom with a huge bed, delightful period furnishings and palacious ensuite bathroom with large bath and posh toiletries.

Breakfast was excellent, from the farm’s own produce. Two happy and well-rested cyclists pedalled ...

Even with the little problem with Google Maps not showing the right location of this beautiful B&amb;B, it receives the maximum number of oinks, just as it deserves.
